Explore is our outpatient program in Salt Lake, serving clients in Salt Lake County. Groups are held weekly. Mentoring Services (Tracking) is available.
Also offered are individual and/or Family Therapy, Substance Abuse Assessments, Psychological Evaluations, Educational Evaluations, Psychiatric Evaluations and Medication Management and UA testing.
The Strengthening Families Program is available including Home-Based or Proctor-Based services.Classes are offered weekly accompanied by In-Home Family Coaching sessions. Aftercare for clients who have particapated in the Strengthening Families Program at other Journey Programs is offered at this site.
Clients are served while living at home or in one of our proctor homes. The Out-Patient clinic serves both males and females, ages 13 to 18. Length of time varies with the client.
We have contracts with DJJS/DCFS as well as accepting private pay.

Amanda Baker – Program Director
Amanda has been working for The Journey for 8 years, She started at the Ranch in Mona in 2008, she was a Assistant Director at The Homestead in Mt Pleasant for 3 1/2 years. While she was at the Homestead she lead many 6 day wilderness treks with the clients and found a passion for backpacking and spending time in the outdoors with the youth. She later transferred to the Administration Office when she moved to Provo with her family and has been the Medical Supervisor for the last 4 years. Now as the Explore Director she loves working with the youth again and being able to be a part of their positive life changes. She is compassionate, dedicated, and enjoys the opportunity to build positive human connections with those around her. Amanda lives in Provo with her husband and 4 children, all of which are boys! On her spare time she enjoys traveling with her family and spending as much time as they can in the great outdoors. They all love to go rock climbing, back packing, and finding new camping spots to visit.
Diane Sandoval, LCSW
Diane has her Master of Social Work from Utah State University and Bachelor of Science in Social Psychology from Brigham Young University. Diane is certified in Domestic Violence treatment, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Aggression Replacement, Suicide Prevention, Positive Control, CPR and First Aid. Diane has received extensive training in Child Parent Psychotherapy, Play Therapy, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Sex Addiction and Jungian Therapy. Diane is currently employed with The Journey as a therapist. She has worked as a therapist with troubled children, adolescents and their families for 5 years. Diane has also worked with adults and couples in a variety of treatment settings. She has previously assisted troubled teens and their families as a Case Manager and Treatment Counselor with The State of Utah for 15 years. Diane has served on the Board for the National Alliance for Infant Mental Health and has participated in grant writing to assist with funding for The Journey.
Ted Bell, M.Ed., LCMHC
Ted has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Marketing and a Master’s Degree in Education with an emphasis in Educational Counseling. He obtained licensure in June 2010 as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC). Prior to joining The Journey Ted worked for ten years in Juvenile Justice Services (JJS) with youth in outpatient, residential, and secure settings as a Counselor and Case Manager. His clinical experience includes over seven years of conducting individual, family, and group psychotherapy and completing court-ordered psychosocial parenting and mental health assessments. Ted’s experience also includes five years with Alternative Youth Adventures (90-day experiential/ wilderness program for adjudicated youth). He served as a Senior Field Instructor, Field Specialist, Team Leader/Supervisor, and Discharge Director. His specialty is working with at-risk teens (11-18 years) with diagnoses of ADHD, depression, and anxiety as well specific addictions (substance abuse, video game, pornography, etc.), trauma/PTSD, and other behavioral issues. He is passionate about helping teens and their parents understand and navigate challenging times. He is a Scout Master of five years and served his church for two years as a missionary in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He is an accomplished whitewater kayaker, rock climber, mountaineer, telemark skier, and world traveler. He looks forward to serving the youth and parents in Salt Lake County.
